From the Clinic to Otherworldly Adventures: Vicky McGrath’s New Tween Fantasy Graphic Novel Offers a Fresh Spin on Friendship and Bravery

“Tails From the Clinic: Tom” Debuts as the First in an Exciting New Series

Ontario, Canada – October 2024 – Debuting author Vicky McGrath is excited to announce the release of her highly anticipated graphic novel, Tails From the Clinic: Tom. The first in a planned series, this tween fantasy adventure tells the story of two best friends who, along with their mothers’ veterinary patients, are swept into multidimensional adventures, teaching them the true meaning of friendship, courage, and loyalty.

Set in the quaint town of Unionvale, Tails From the Clinic: Tom introduces readers to 11-year-olds Sam and Julia, best friends who love helping out at their mothers’ veterinary clinic after school. But a typical day at the clinic takes a magical turn when their patient, an ordinary orange tabby cat named Tom, becomes their guide through time and space, leading the duo on a thrilling quest involving a mysterious artifact and a globe-trotting archaeologist. As they traverse dimensions and uncover the secrets of the past, Sam, Julia, and Tom must work together to protect a discovery of global importance.

"This book is for young readers who love animals, adventure, and a good dose of heartwarming friendship," says McGrath. "Sam and Julia are ordinary kids who find themselves in extraordinary situations, showing readers that even in the most unexpected moments, bravery and friendship can make all the difference."

A Story Born From Isolation and Creativity

The inspiration for Tails From the Clinic came during a deeply personal time for McGrath. In 2020, when the pandemic hit Ontario and drastically changed the way she ran her senior care business, McGrath found herself feeling isolated alongside her daughter, who was adjusting to online school. "Writing became my creative escape," McGrath recalls. "My daughter and I are both huge Harry Potter fans, and that love of magical worlds inspired me to create something new for kids who might feel like they need a bit of magic in their lives too."
